Myanmar Press Market Awakens

BY DAMIEN RYAN                                                   Myanmar’s government has taken steps to liberalise the press market, allowing the publication of several privately-owned daily newspapers beginning April 1. The move was immediately visible in the streets. Despite this newfound freedom, it may be too early to call this a development in the domestic media relations’ industry.  

Shifting Sands for Singapore’s Islamic Finance Ambitions

BY ASTON TAN It appears that Singapore has thrown in the towel in its bid to become a leader of Islamic finance. Singapore announced in its 2013 Budget in February that it would be hiking taxes for Islamic finance businesses from the current five percent to the standard 12 percent.   From a communications perspective, this decision potentially ends opportunities in the island state for telling compelling stories in a burgeoning asset class.
